I perhaps could be considered an otaku, but I generally I just follow the most common popular anime like everyone else. However, I do like to keep track of Gundam since that probably is my favorite. Like most older American anime fans, I grew up with Star Blazers, Transformers, and Robotech. I also grew up watching most of the Japanese cartoons in the 80’s and 90’s. Yes I even watched Toonami even though I’ve seen it all before, but it was interesting to watch the stuff dubbed. I however do not follow a lot of the newer anime since they tend to be catering to otaku with disturbing fetishes for extreme violence, sex, or school girls.
Jdrama’s have gone down the toilet so there’s not much new stuff to watch. There’s really no good storytelling anymore and the series have gotten so short it’s impossible to unfold anything interesting or develop any drama and characters. Everyone likes a good love story or plot, but if they make outrageously stupid and dumb shows who really wants to watch? If there is anything notable I will of course mention it. Kdrama’s are a lot better but they may start turning bad if they become shorter and contain less drama and good stories. Kdrama’s are like the Jdrama’s in the 70’s to mid 90’s so that is why everyone watches them.
I enjoy Jpop and listening to it. I like Kpop because of the hot girls. Duh… Although the beats and style do follow the American mainstream crap with dancing and rapping. If you’ve read this whole page you’ve obviously got nothing better to do:-P
