I guess After School’s sub-unit Orange Caramel looks cutesy and sort of like the Japanese Morning Musume type, but after I watched their performance on Music Bank I changed my mind. The thing that stuck out to me the most was that they were doing a lot of hand movements which is more like Perfume. I’m guessing they might become more like Perfume if they start doing technopop by adding some Autotune and picking up the beat. If they went in that direction it might be better. I guess even if a group is cutesy, they still might be more popular with fanboys or mostly men. Of course it’s better to have equal amounts of female and male fans, but if a female idol group has to distinguish itself and choose an audience they really should go after the guys. I think all those hand movements and coordinated dancing casts a spell or mesmerizes guys for some reason… hehe.
Orange Caramel is a sub-group of the Kpop super girl group After School. Raina, Nana, and Lizzy are the youngest and newest members of After School and the trio form this cute new group. It’s supposedly targeting global markets or other Asian markets. It sounds a lot like some old Japanese girl group songs. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, some have commented it sounds like Sailor Moon, and I somewhat agree. The dude in the music video is Minhyuk, the drummer from the boy band C.N. Blue.
After School Because of You MV. Soyoung left the group and they added another model type to the group named Nana and a singer to the group with Raina. I’m sort of pissed since I liked Soyoung and her raspy voice. I thought they added enough eye candy with Uee since she’s popular, pretty, and absolutely can’t sing. I hope they can make it work, it just seems out of balance now. 2 Rappers, 2 Singers, and 3 pretty girls.
